All flights on the route between the UK and Chennai (Madras),
will arrive at the Madras International Airport named Anna Terminal,
accepting flights from major destinations like London, Frankfurt, Dubai,
Muscat, Bahrain, Dhahran, Jeddah, Singapore, Kula Lampur and Sri Lanka.
The airport has two adjacent terminals with the Kamaraj Terminal handling
domestic flights connecting to destinations across Chennai. The airport
is situated at Tirisulam, 7 Km south of Chennai.
For your onward travel there is a train station opposite the airport and
buses do operate between the airport and Chennai city. The best option
however as is true in many parts of India especially if you are unfamiliar,
is to use a taxi. The price will be slightly higher but compared to the
bus travel is worth the extra and is still relatively cheap.
A prepay taxi counter is located in the arrival lounge of the Madras airport
and is considered by many as the safest way for your transfer from the
airport that works well. Simply state your destination to the staff at
the counter along with the number of luggage items you have, The counter
staff then take the fare in advance and issue you with a coupon containing
a cab number. Now compare the ticket number with the matching cab in the
stand outside the airport, tell the driver your destinationthen and after
reaching it, hand over the coupon to the driver.
