The International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal
at The Goa International Airport are conveniently housed within
the same building. The airport is located at Dabolim, midway between the
city of Vasco da Gama approximately 4 km (2 miles) away, and Dabolim town.
The state capital Panaji is approximately 30km (19 miles) distance to
the north of the airport.
Local buses which are not very frequent and often crowded operate between
the airport and Vasco da Gama, also stopping at the closer Chicalim bus
stop, about 1.5 km from the airport.
Local mini-buses connect both Vasco da Gama and Chicalim to the airport
but as with most destinations we recommend using pre-paid taxis. The pre-paid
taxi service counter is located outside the terminal building.
We do not recomend that tourists or visitors hire self-drive cars in India
due to the congestion and nature of Indian driving. The nearest train
station is at Vasco da Gama.
Despite the recent relaxation of bilateral rules covering flights to India,
flights to Goa are still generally only available through charter airlines.
It is possible to pick up cheap tickets that have remained unsold on charter
flights but they tend to be few and far between. In general the charter
flights will only be available to you as part of a holiday package deal.
If you want to be free of the package deal, then you will need to fly
into an alternative Indian city usually Mumbai (Bombay) and travel onward
by internal flight, road or rail.
