There is a train station opposite the airport
and buses do operate from the airport to the city, the best
option however, especially if you are unfamiliar, is to use
a taxi. The price will be slightly higher but compared to
the bus travel is worth the extra and is still relatively

of the airport. It is a safe way for your transfer from the
airport that works well. Simply state your destination to
the staff at the counter along with the number of luggage
items you have, They will take the fare in advance and issue
you with a coupon containing a cab number. Now compare the
ticket number with the matching cab in the stand outside the
airport, tell the driver your destination then after reaching
it, hand over the coupon to the the driver.

Chennai (Madras)

As with many cities and areas of India, Chennai is a city
of Contrast and diversity. A true mix of the old and the new
with stately colonial buildings overlooked by modern high-rises.
Known formerly as Madras, it has grown from a cluster of fishing
villages to become the forth-largest city in India and is
the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. Located on the Bay
of Bengal in the South of India, Chennai is an important commercial
and cultural centre yet has its own culture very distinct
from other cities. There is a difference in the people compared
to the rest of India, along with a different style of food
and different architecture. Chennai is a calm city that seems
to go at it's own pace, traffic is well managed, it is one
of the cleaner cities in India and has some of the best and
cheapest shopping.
Chennai, being a large commercial city, is the centre of
the area's air, rail and road networks and so can be a good
starting point for exploring the south. It also has a lot
to offer in it's own right with many sights to see including
the majestic forts and palaces of bygone eras and magnificent
temple architecture. The Marina beach covers an area of over
13km and is said to be the second longest beach in Asia.
The climate is hot and humid but the breeze blowing from
the sea makes it more bearable.
