Cochin International Airport
(COK)
|
|
Direct flights to Kochi (Cochin) from the UK
are not yet available but many flights including one or two
stops can be easily obtained. Connections from cities within
India are available but more convenient options can often
be via other cities in the Gulf region. Flight times including
stops, are usually between 13 and 18 hours.
Cochin's international airport is located on India's west
coast approximately 28kms (18 miles) north of the city centre
at Nedumbassery. It is close to major roads and the main railway
line from Kanyakumari to Delhi. There is however no train
service from the actual airport. Buses operate from the airport
to the city, but we consider the best option, especially if
you are unfamiliar, is to use a taxi. Pre Paid Taxi Counters
are located within both the Domestic and International Terminals,
are fully computerized and automated and managed by the staff
of Cochin International Airport Limited. These taxis are available
around the clock and you have a choice of ordinary and air-conditioned
cars. As stated elsewhere throughout our site, we do not recommend
that tourists or visitors hire self-drive cars in India due
to the nature of Indian driving.

Kochi (Cochin)

Kochi, formerly known as Cochin, is an important and attractive
port city of Kerala, located in the district of Ernakulam.
It has many tourist attractions including museums, art galleries
and religious places. Many excursions are available to temples,
pilgrim centers, tourist spots and places of interest.
Nestled amidst coconut tress, green shrubs and the softly
lapping water of the sea, you will find Fort Kochi beach.
The perfect place to stroll and relax away from the bustle
of the city. The Fort Kochi beach is one of the favorite haunts
of the locals and tourists alike, soaking up not only the
sun but the tranquil atmosphere of the beach. Though quite
rocky, it is a popular picnic spot and is regarded as one
of the most beautiful places in Kerala. The beach is quite
famous for its remarkable fishing nets.
Located at a distance of 35 km from Cochin, in the village
of Cherai in the Ernakulam district you can find the Cherai
beach. With a 15km coastline this is a destination that anyone
touring this part of Southern India must visit. The clean
and shallow water is the perfect place for swimming and sunbathing
and like the Fort Kochi beach, is a favorite haunt of the
locals and tourists alike. Cherai beach is the golden beach
of Kerala, the sandy shores surrounded by tall coconut trees
and green paddy fields. A recent addition is a 400 meter long
illuminated walkway.
