Flights to India
Approximate flying times from London to New Delhi are 8.5 to
9.5 hours for non stop flights. Approximate flying times from
London to Kolkata (Calcutta) are 11 to 12 hours for non stop
flights.
Flying times will vary if you elect flights that make stops
enroute, these will often save you money.
The main international airports within India are;
New Delhi (DEL): the Indira Gandhi International airport is
located 20km south of the city centre. Travel time to and from
the city is typically 20 to 30 minutes. Buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws
are all available. Facilities at the airport include duty free
shops, banks, bureaux de change, post office, restaurants and

Mumbai (BOM): the Chhatrapata Shivayi International airport
is just 30 km north of the city with transfer times being anything
between 50 and 80 minutes. Taxi services operate between the
airport and the city with fixed rate fares. Be sure to establish
a price with the driver before setting off. Public transport
bus services are also available. Facilities at the airport include
a bank, bureaux de change, post office, restaurant, shops and
a nursery.
Kolkata (Calcutta) (CCU): the airport is just 12 km(approx)
from the city with a travel time of between 40 and 80 minutes.
Coach, bus and train services are freely available. Facilities
at the airport include bank, post office, duty free shops and
restaurants.
Chennai (formerly Madras) (MAA): the airport is approximately
15 km southwest of the city with a travel time of just 20 to
30 minutes. A coach meets all flight arrivals between the hours
of 0900 and 2300. Trains run between the hours of 0500 and 2300,
while a bus service operates between 0500 and 2200. Taxis are
also available.
Note: when leaving the country, a departure tax of £10 per
person is payable.
